  4. The Shadow of the Wind
  6. The Invisible Library
  8. The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend

“We’ve all seen him: the man – the monster – staring from the front page of every newspaper, accused of a terrible crime.

But what about her: the woman who grips his arm on the courtroom stairs – the wife who stands by him?

Jean Taylor’s life was blissfully ordinary. Nice house, nice husband. Glen was all she’d ever wanted: her Prince Charming. But then he became that monster on the front page, a man everyone thought capable of unimaginable evil.

Now Glen is dead and she’s alone for the first time, free to tell her story on her own terms. Jean Taylor is going to tell us what she knows."

Reading this book is like surfing on the sea. For the whole time, you were expecting, at least, one big wave, so you could experience the exciting moment of surfing. However, all you got was disappointment. No such big waves. All the time, readers were just FLOATING!!

“Irene must be on top of her game or she’ll be off the case – permanently.

Irene is a professional spy for the mysterious Library, which harvests fiction from different realities. and along with her enigmatic assistant Kai, she’s posted to an alternative London. Their mission – to retrieve a dangerous book. But when they arrive, it’s already been stolen. London’s underground factions seem prepared to fight to the very death to find her book.

Adding to the jeopardy, this world is chaos-infested – the laws of nature bent to allow supernatural creatures and unpredictable magic. Irene’s new assistant is also hiding secrets of his own. And soon, she’s up to her eyebrows in a heady mix of danger, clues and secret societies. Yet failure is not an option – the nature of reality itself is at stake."

——————————————————————

One of some books I have read and am reading which are about books, libraries, or writing. I like the skill Irene has that she “can use the Language to, in blunt terms, make things do things." She says, “I can’t change a door from a locked door to an open door, but I can make the lock on a door open itself." It’s very exciting to read the part when Irene uses the Language to save herself.

When the first bullet hit my chest, I thought of my daughter…

Marc Seidman awakens to find himself in an ICU, hooked up to an IV, his head swathed in bandages. Twelve days earlier, he’s had an enviable life as a successful surgeon, living in a peaceful suburban neighborhood with his beautiful wife and a baby he adored. Now he lies in a hospital bed, shot by an unseen assailant. His wife has been killed, and his six-month-old daughter, Tara, has vanished. But just when his world seems forever shattered, something arrives to give Marc new hope: a ransom note.

We are watching, if you contact the authorities, you will never see your daughter again. There will be no second chance.

The note is chilling, but Marc sees only one thing – he has the chance to save his daughter. He can’t talk to the police or the FBI. He doesn’t know whom he can trust. And now the authorities are closing in on a new suspect: Marc himself. Mired in a deepening quicksand of deception and deadly secrets – about his wife, about an old love he’s never forgotten, and about his own past – he clings to one unwavering vow: to bring home Tara, at any cost."

Kidnapping; story told from the victim’s point of view. Not my favorite kind of books.

“They were looking for a miracle cure…

Sara and Michael. The ideal couple, darlings of the media – until their lives are shattered by a mystery illness.

Dr. Harvey Riker. His clinic has found the miracle cure that millions seek. One by one his patients are getting well. One by one they are targeted by a serial killer more fatal than the disease.

Lieutenant Bernstein. His true desires make him a perfect choice of track the killer – or a perfect victim.

Can anyone stop the killer who will do anything to prevent the world’s most desperately needed miracle cure …?"

________________________________________________

Like everybody in the book was fooled by the miracle cure, I think many readers probably, at least I am, feel being fooled by the title. The so called miracle cure that created by the clinic of Dr Harvey turned out to be just a fraud. I have a feeling, when I know who the monster was, that the book is only a fraud.

Temperance Brennan

“A commercial jetliner disaster has brought Tempe Brennan to the North Carolina mountains as a member of the investigative agency DMORT. As bomb theories abound, Tempe soon discovers a jarring piece of evidence that raises dangerous questions – and gets her thrown from the DMORT team. Relentless in her pursuit of its significance, Tempe uncovers a shocking, multilayered tale of deceit and depravity as she probes her way into frightening territory – where someone wants her stopped in her tracks."

One accident site, one multilayered crime, so many victims. Too complicated.
